To the producer of Entertainment Tonight online who published the photo of MJ in the back of the ambulance...may you burn in hell for an eternity you enormous douche bag. How would you feel if that was your father, brother, or son?

I tried to find contact info on the site to tell them exactly how I feel about their humanity fail but I couldn’t find it easily and didn’t want to keep looking at that picture.

May every other media outlet in the world have the human decency not to show that picture or any others like it.

I’m having second thoughts about who to vote for to be our mayor. I was just going to vote for our current mayor. I felt he wasn’t being given the chance to do as much as he could because everyone keeps challenging him. They are making him spend too much time defending his position.

But then I saw his campaign signs. “Luke Ravenstahl is Getting It Done”

Really? Getting what done? He’s been mayor two and a half years and the city is still littered with abandoned houses. Every other day we hear about another murder or two, and another home invasion.

Senior centers have been closed.
Summer recreation programs have been shut down.
Warrington Pool has not been open in years and now has a giant crater in the middle of it.
Port Authority is still threatening to cut routes and increase prices.
They couldn’t keep the roads clear this winter even with three days notice that the snow was coming.

What exactly is he getting done? We don’t have any more time to waste letting him figure it out.

I’m voting for Carmen L. Robinson. Her slogan is “She’s Nobody’s Boy”

Oh, snap!

3:51 pm - Tourist gouging
I haven’t updated for about a week. I was really busy at work and then took a few days to go up to Niagara Falls. It was nice to get away and relax a bit but it was also disappointing in many ways. The weather was beautiful and the falls were gorgeous as always. But the costs and rudeness of the people overtook a lot the goodness.

The Canadian border patrol agent was downright rude, asking not only the usually questions but also demanding to know where we worked and when we were expected back. She asked three times what we had packed. Many of the service workers we came in contact with were either uninterested or outright rude.

Perhaps these people have just had enough of tourists, but really, this early in the season? They better get used to it or find new jobs. We were good tourist too so that makes it even more annoying. We used Canadian money or credit cards most of the time and did our best to hide our incongruity at being given handfuls of change. Seriously, what do they have against a dollar bill? And the one time I needed to use US dollars I asked first to make sure it was okay.

The hotel, while very clean and very comfortable, had additional fees for so much stuff that is usually included that when my sister turned on the TV, she wondered out loud if there was a fee for that to.

I enjoyed the smoke-free casino but we both stopped playing before we even hit the limit of what we had planned on losing, just because we weren’t winning at all. Usually with slots you win some you lose some, but these were just lose lose lose. I think the best either of us did was $5 up.

I hope that someday the memories of lounging in the easy chair and relaxing with the spectacular view will replace the feeling of being ripped off. At the very least I can relive the euphoria of sharing a joke with the American border patrol agent and being allowed to return to my country tis of thee.

5:02 pm - Random
I almost forgot to update today. I’ve spend most of the afternoon looking at things to do this weekend in Niagara Falls (you know, in between actually doing work). It is supposed to fairly cold still so I don’t know how much of the water stuff will be open. I have a list of stuff though, and I will take my laptop so we can look some things up if we need to.

My Easter weekend was non-eventful. I am only slightly jealous of everyone who was talking about spending time with their family. I missed the ham and heart attack potatoes but other than that, it was just like any other weekend. This is the first holiday since my dad passed and it seems we have already all gone our separate ways.

My last official class for this semester is tomorrow night. Then I have a few weeks off before I have to buckle down and get serious again. I have three classes over the summer and and three in the fall. Then, you may refer to me as Qlarue, BSBA, MBA. As much as I would like to keep adding initials to the end of my name, I don’t ever think there will be a PhD there. That would be too much work.

4:49 pm - Memories...
I often kid that I have sort term memory loss but this week I began to realize that I may also have long term memory loss.

In class the other night my professor was talking about the school where I did my undergrad and he called the one building by its old name. In my head I said, “It’s not called that anymore. They renamed it…” And I couldn’t remember the name. Then I started thinking about some of the other buildings and I couldn’t remember their names either. I spent a great deal of times in these buildings and now, only three years later, I can’t remember their names.

Then last night I was doing the “First” meme on Facebook and couldn’t remember the name of my first grade teacher. I couldn’t remember other stuff either. Stuff you’d think would be burned in my mind. What girl doesn’t remember her fist sleepover? Apparently me. I’ve never been good at remembering names or dates but this is a lit bit scary.

5:23 pm - Picture Pages?
I’ve been thinking about doing a day in the life picture post like [info]lele244. It could start with the bus driving down the street without me. I don’t know why I can’t get out the door 2 minutes faster.

Anyway, the problem with pictures of my day is that I don’t think I could get the shots I want:
-Me and 400 other lemmings getting off the subway and heading up the steps.
-The ginormous line at Starbucks.
-The 4.5 x 6.5 foot beige cell I spend my day in.
-The ghetto ass losers at the bus stop in the evening.

I’ll have to brainstorm in class tonight to see what shots I might be able to get. Perhaps:
-The cross eyed Siamese cat that sits in the window of the gift shop
-The subway pulling out of the station without me
-A co-worker’s panda sweater
-My cats ignoring me when I get home.

3:56 pm - Gonna Go Back in Time!
I watched the last two episodes of “Lost” this weekend along with a few episodes of “Life on Mars”. (On “Lost” some of the castaways have been transported back to 1973 and are now living in that time period. “Life on Mars” is about a guy who gets hit by a car in 2008 and wakes up in 1973.)

So last night while I was lying wide awake in bed instead of going to sleep, I got to thinking…what would I do if I was transported back to 1973, but in my present body with my present knowledge about the past 35 years. What would I do? The first thing that popped into my head was…I would buy Microsoft stock. Lots and lots of Microsoft stock.

Then I would buy Atari stock and American Greetings (Strawberry Shortcake) and Hallmark (Rainbow Bright) and Hasbro (My Little Pony) and Mattel (Barbie). Then I would dump all of them in time to buy Nintendo stock in 1987…two years before the release of the original Game Boy.

I suppose somewhere along the line, I would make my way to Hollywood and help out some struggling artists. Perhaps provide some funds to a young George Lucas to help him realize his movie dreams? What’s that George? No, you don’t have to pay me back. How about you just give me a percentage of the profits of every Star Wars film you ever make? And introduce me to your good friend Steven Spielberg while you are at it.

Possible things to write about today:

The pipe bombs found a few blocks from my house.
How if Jackie says “cucumbers" one more time I might have to kill her.

Passports!

My sister and I applied for passports four weeks ago and neither of us are listed on the website as them ever having received our application. We even paid the extra for expedited service. We are going to Niagara Falls in two weeks and even though we will not need to have the passports, having them may make things easier.

I paid with money orders so I don’t even have a check to see if they cashed it yet. I remembered seeing a phone number on the site so I was actually going to pick up a phone and call them today, but the site is down for maintenance. Again.

Anyway, I really really really hope they did not lose the applications because they keep your birth certificate with the application. Dude stapled my birth certificate to the app! My sister said something like, “Hey Dude, I kinda need that back” and he assured us we would get them back. I also seem to remember he said most people were getting their passports back in about three weeks so maybe he’s not so reliable after all.

I guess I just have to hold tight until the 16th and if we don’t get them by then, I’ll be spending my lunch hour at the state building getting a new birth certificate. I like visiting Canada, but I love my country even more and would really like to be allowed back in.

12:18 pm - Changes
So who wants to talk about the G20? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Okay, how about the friend’s page redesign they are talking about? Do not want! Did they learn nothing from the Facebook fiasco?

http://news.livejournal.com/114430.html

Okay, so now that I read it, it actually seems like they are trying to mimic Facebook by adding notifications…”Whenever one of your friends uploads a new userpic, adds or removes friends, comments on an entry, changes a setting, or uploads a picture to Scrapbook, this information will be added as an entry on your Friends Page.”

I don’t want this. This would be way too much information about stuff that doesn’t concern me. Luckily, right now you have to opt in but I’m sure soon enough they will just make the change for everyone.

It also says most people don’t want to read more than 140 characters so you probably aren’t even still reading this. :)

3:11 pm - Sweet Home, Pennsylvania
I want to buy a house. I have one all picked out and everything. I just don’t have the money to do it alone.

We can’t stay in our current house too much longer. It is falling down around us and the patching will only work for so long. The neighborhood is in decline. There are three abandoned house on our block alone and many others on the surrounding blocks. I know I have to take my mother with me and I assume I have to take my sister too, but I can’t depend on either of them to chip in.

My mom pays our current mortgage. I doubt the house would for sell for what is owed and I’m not sure she would just walk away and default on the payments. My sister is still young and there is still a chance she will move out of this town. I don’t want to tie her to a 30 year mortgage.

I got myself into this mess. I ran up a bit more credit card debt than I should have when I was young. Then when I was laid of in 2004, I choose to go to school full-time and practically lived off credit cards for 2 years. Even now, when I could be fiscally responsible and not buy what I can’t afford, I jet off to Vegas and put it on the card.

I decided that for this month, I will track all of my spending. Not to try to not spend less than normal but just to see where all my money is going. Then I can better see how to make cuts.

3:06 pm - The global workplace
I work for a global company. We have offices in several countries and do business all over the world. This morning I attended a training class at my desk (web based with a conference call for all participants). When the trainer got on the line, he had a British accent and I got all excited (because that is what we Americans do). Anyway, through out the call it became apparent that he not only had the accent but he was actually in London.

Then when people started asking questions, I realized that there were also participants from New York, Toronto, and the Netherlands on the call. I was like “Whoa.” Little old me, sitting here in dinky Pittsburgh, sharing an experience with people half a world away. It made me feel really insignificant that I am part of such a huge machine.

I need to get back into the LJ swing of things.

Over time, I have deleted all the “friends” who were boring me or annoying me. Many other journals have gone stagnant. I kept the ones I would like to hear from again someday and deleted the rest. So now, I only have about 10 friends who regularly update.

I need to make new LJ friends but I think I should get into the groove of updating again so I can be a good friend and not just a stalker.

Maybe my first assignment to myself can be for me to make a new “getting to know you” post tomorrow.

I guess that means I should go public for a while too.

I needed to know what time it is in London so I Googled “world clock”. Not only did it add the world clock to my iGoogle, it was already set to London time.

Do you suppose that is the default? Or is Google so good now, it knows what I want before I ask for it?

I've been listening to Sirius Satellite radio all day at work…90’s on 9!

And I have been quietly reliving my youth.

11:35 am
I’m back from New York and back at work. Thankfully it is a pretty slow day as I am beat tired.

The trip usually takes 7 hours if me or my sister is driving, but this time I went with my parents. I don’t mind the stopping every 2 hours for a bathroom break but the stopping to sit down and eat lunch/dinner at Perkins was a bit much.

The trip home was even longer. We had to stop to buy newspapers. We had to stop for lunch at Perkins. Then we had to stop for donuts. Then we had to have dinner at the Roadhouse. It took us 10.5 hours to get home.

Other things I forgot about traveling with my parents…
- My mom will have nothing to say until I turn on my headphones. Then she needs to talk.
- My mom will sing out loud, with or without the radio on.
- When I let her read a book before me, she will continuously ask me how far along I am.
- My mom will ask for a take home box for her leftover chicken strips…even though we are 6 hours from home.
- My dad like to race tractor-trailers.
- My dad will not eat fast food on the road.
- My dad can go for hours without speaking.

Other than that it was just an okay trip. My sister was extremely uptight the whole time and my brother-in-law is a pain in the ass. Her friend’s kids are alternately mean and stupid. Her friends think they are superior because they are from The Bronx and I am from some tiny hick town in the country. I had been planning on going up for a long weekend in July but now I am not so sure.
